Description
* Develop front end and technical specifications for each project by creating detailed, precise descriptions of the materials, products, and workmanship needed for a construction project that align with the project’s design and budget.
* Collaborate with Project Managers, Architects and Engineers to ensure that the specifications meet the design intent and technical requirements of the project.
* Research and analyze various construction materials and methods to make informed recommendations based on cost, durability, and compatibility with other elements of the project.
* Ensure that the specifications comply with industry standards and regulations through familiarity with building codes and the ADA, as well as projects that are funded by the Environmental Facilities Corporation (EFC), the United State Department of Agriculture (USDA), and other agencies.
* Maintain and update specification documents throughout the project lifecycle, including changes made during the construction phase.
* Maintain organized specifications folder.
* Interact with vendors and contractors to clarify specifications and ensure that materials and workmanship meet the project standards.
* Strong skills in technical writing and communication are crucial, as specifications need to be clear, concise, and free of ambiguity.
* Integrates sustainable design initiatives into specifications.
* Participates in QA/QC reviews and checks on project documents.
* Coordinates specifications with Building Information Modeling (BIM) strategies and specification writing software when appropriate.
* Participates in quality management reviews and provides technical advice in design development through construction document phases.
* Acts as a risk management resource to other project leaders.
* Develops new specification sections as needed.
* Produce a clean paper and electronic copy of each final spec as bid for our records.
Position Requirements
* Minimum seven years of specifications writing and formatting experience for architecture, engineering, construction firms or in a related field.
* CSI certified professional. CSI CDT required with CCS and/or CCCA certification(s) preferred. LEED AP BD + C certification is preferred.
* Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field required. Registered professional preferred.
* Must have the ability to juggle multiple projects at the same time and the ability to professionally work with colleagues and clients across disciplines.
* Understanding of the selection and integration of building systems and materials.
* Understanding of public project delivery, bidding, and contract procedures.
* Ability to apply knowledge of Underwriters Laboratory (U.L.) directory and systems, ASTM standards in building codes, and Factory Mutual construction requirements.
* Proven track record of quality control on progressively more complex and diverse projects.
* The ability to utilize BSD Spec-Link as a specification writing tool is a plus.
* Understanding of both AIA and EJCDC construction documents is a plus.
Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000
As of this posting, the estimated annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 – $100,000. Actual base salary will be based upon criteria such as experience, qualifications and skill level. We are an EEO Employer.
