AJ Connect is delighted to be partnering with one of Scotland’s leading Law Firms to appoint a Management Accountant within the Finance department. This Firm has specialised in meeting the legal, financial, and administrative needs of its clients for over 100 years.
Reporting directly to the Finance Director, this is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious or experienced Finance professional who is passionate about providing a variety of effective, efficient, and timely finance services to support the wider organisation.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Responsibility for the preparation and review of high-quality monthly management accounts and comprehensive commentary to reflect business performance, working to the required deadlines.
2. Responsibility for preparation, review and sign off of year end accounts including liaison with the auditors.
3. Preparation of detailed financial analysis, including KPI analysis at a firm, group, partner team, and individual level.
4. Preparation of net profitability reporting at group, team and client/matter level.
5. Preparation of monthly cashflow and profit and loss forecasting.
6. Preparation of annual budgets and budgeted cashflows within the agreed timelines, and monitoring/reporting thereon.
7. Responsibility for the accurate preparation and timely submission of business statutory and regulatory requirements including quarterly VAT returns, government statistical returns, P11D submissions and PAYE settlement agreement returns.
8. Review and sign off of monthly payroll.
9. Authorisation of online bank payments, both client and firm, on a daily basis as required, ensuring that all proposed payments have been appropriately checked and are in line with the agreed firm standards/protocols.
10. Completion of all tax analysis work, preparation of the tax computation and review of the firm’s tax return submission.
11. Responsibility for the accurate preparation of Partner performance review financial information.
12. To be responsible for ensuring that banking operational set up requirements are managed appropriately, including bank mandate management, business credit card management and firm business profile submissions.
13. Responsibility for the completion of all annual insurance policy renewals.
14. In-house Companies – providing company secretarial services for all group companies.
15. To provide guidance and training within the finance team and the firm as a whole on cashroom/billing/time recording.
16. To manage and provide training on the firm’s financial dashboard.
17. Ensuring full compliance by the firm with the Law Society of Scotland Accounts Rules.
18. Working with MBM’s Billing and Cashroom Managers to ensure WIP and client unbilled costs are managed effectively and efficiently.
19. Working with the Cashroom team to ensure outstanding fees are collected timeously and a robust credit control environment is in place at all times.
Essential Skills/Competencies:
1. ICAS/ICAEW/CIMA/ACCA or equivalent qualified accountant with strong SME experience. Professional services sector experience preferred.
2. Highly organised, able to work autonomously taking full responsibility for items noted in job specification and prioritise tasks to tight deadlines.
3. Comfortable working in a finance team of 10, in a growing, ambitious SME business. Ability and appetite to “get the sleeves rolled up” as required.
4. Flexible, positive, and self-motivated. A self-starter.
5. Ability to strongly perform and deliver in a fast-paced environment.
6. Meticulous attention to detail, delivering accurate, reliable and timely outputs.
7. Comfortable learning new systems, developing and implementing new procedures and proposing solutions for problems.
8. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a customer focused approach.
