What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking an ambitious and talented individual as the curriculum leader of PE who will lead Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 and Post 16 in this subject. This is a very exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, dynamic and committed leader to join the middle level leadership team at the College, who is highly motivated and an excellent practitioner and able to drive outcomes for learners. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring excellent outcomes for all our students, fostering a love of physical activity and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Our whole College motto is "inspiring optimistic learners" and a key aspect of this is ensuring that every student knows that we believe in their capacity to succeed. At Torpoint Community College, we consider it to be essential to implement an effectively sequenced curriculum that empowers students with the knowledge and understanding that will equip them for their chosen lives ahead. Our intent is to provide a curriculum that enables students and staff to build on their knowledge and understanding, resulting in a “deep sequenced learning experience” for all throughout a seven-year narrative. Every subject is therefore planned to ensure that knowledge is taught to be learned - not merely encountered. Key Stage 3 is not considered as a conveyor belt to Key Stage 4 qualifications, but an opportunity for students to master aspects of the subject discipline through experiencing high quality explanations, plenty of time dedicated to practice and lots of opportunities to retrieve and review.
The Key Responsibilities include:
• Provide strategic leadership and direction for the PE department
• Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum that engages and challenges students
• Monitor and evaluate the performance of the department, identifying areas for improvement
• Organise and oversee a wide range of extracurricular sports and activities
• Promote the College’s ethos, values and culture through both the PE and PSHE curriculum.
The College was inspected by Ofsted in July 2022, and we achieved our third consecutive “good” judgement. We are proud of our report and the recognition of the positive experience we provide for young people. The successful candidate for this post will have a commitment to maintaining consistently high standards, and a proactive approach to ensuring the best possible outcomes for students. The successful candidate will play an integral role in driving the College priorities so will need to be aligned with the College Improvement Plan and our key principles.
Further details are available from the Headteacher, or Jo Jones, HR Manager on 01752 812511 or from the College website.
