Required Skills and Experience:
* HNC or equivalent and relevant experience in the petroleum industry
* Ideally, you will have a BSc in chemistry or a similar field and experience working within a laboratory in the petrochemical industry
* Demonstrable leadership skills obtained in a previous management/supervisory position with the ability to manage personnel
* Understanding of the significance of the data generated by test methods
* Petroleum/Petrochemical testing experience
* A background in quality assurance and experience in maintaining ISO 17025 accreditation
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
You will oversee and drive improvements in new and pre-existing processes, continually re-evaluate whether each process is meeting the applicable standards and engage in problem-solving and improvements as applicable. In addition, you will be responsible for identifying and driving the implementation of cost-efficient practices, as well as being involved in financial reviews.
Key activities:
* Implement, maintain, enforce and improve the Company’s laboratory operating and quality management plans
* Overall technical responsibility for the direct operations of the laboratory; ensuring safety and integrity of service
* Engage with internal and external stakeholders to support technically biased decision-making processes, respond to analytical challenges and problem-solve
* Overall quality control responsibility for the laboratory, in compliance with ISO9001/17025 accreditations
* Ensure that the laboratory is a profitable asset for the Branch and contribute to business development opportunities
* Method development and implementation of additional capabilities to support new testing
* Project management for delivery of new laboratory services
* Maintain and improve the laboratory’s efficiency and sustainability in a cost-effective manner
* Ensure that calibrated and serviceable equipment and trained personnel are available for all jobs
* Deputise key laboratory duties and ensure personnel are aware of their contribution to the laboratory’s quality management system
* Lead by example to set a high standard for professional behaviour and maintenance of a professional atmosphere in the workplace
* Supervise Laboratory Technicians and Chemist Inspectors
* Contribute to the operation of a 24/7 & 365 laboratory with ad-hoc cover provided outside of office hours, on weekends, and bank holidays
People Management Responsibilities:
* Drive performance by setting clear and achievable objectives
* Team engagement using one-to-ones, team meetings, and regular feedback
* Assist the Site Manager in managing performance, discipline, hiring & dismissal
* Responsible for the training and development of junior team members
* Set a high-performance culture
