THE ROLE
Montagu Evans Rating team is one of the UK’s most well-known and established and we are looking for a Surveyor with up to 5 years PQE to join our Edinburgh Office to support on-going growth.
Working directly with clients, members of the Scottish Assessors Association and other Rating consultants the job will include progressing tenant and owner/occupier “appeal” within Scotland and the North of England.
We are looking for someone who operates well as part of a dedicated team whilst is also comfortable taking personal responsibility for, and delivering, their own caseload. Our activity reflects our client base and is both interesting and varied exposing you to a broad range of work including both high value and complex assessments.
The individual will be encouraged to engage in appropriate Business Development and will be an important member of the team as it continues to maintain its strong reputation in market and to grow both market share and fee income.
THE TEAM
Operating nationally the team are based in London, Manchester and Edinburgh and is organised into two principal work streams: Landlord/Developer Rating and Occupier Rating.
Our client base is wide and varied and we represent some of the UK’s largest and highest profile ratepayers across both the private and the public sectors from the worlds of retail, health, leisure and entertainment.
Primarily supporting the Occupier team the individual will provide rating advice to ratepayers with an operational interest in their properties. They deal with a wide range of property types and, acting for some of the UK’s largest occupier portfolios retail and therefore, make use of the Comparative, Contractors and R&E valuation methods.

MAIN DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
* To support senior team members.
* To assist with casework but to grow, manage and progress own casework, under appropriate supervision.
* To be responsible for a defined geographical patch and to manage all appropriate cases within that patch.
* The preparation of valuation data (including analysis of rental, trade and build costs).
* Property inspection and measurement.
* Liaising with public bodies (Assessor/Valuation Officer/local billing authorities) and clients.
* Business Development with a view to increasing fee income.
* Attendance at client meetings, supervised as appropriate.
* Tribunal preparation/attendance as appropriate.
* Be willing to get involved in Professional Bodies activities, including RICS, IRRV and RSA, to advance the firm’s reputation.
* Any additional duties as reasonably requested.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION
* RICS Qualified.
* Excellent communicator, both written and verbal.
* Able to listen, assimilate and act expeditiously.
* Team Player.
* Excellent IT skills.
* Self-motivated and proactive.
* Committed and organised.
* High service delivery skills.
* Full driving licence.
* Previous experience dealing with Billing Authorities and/or Scottish Assessors/Valuation Office Agency.
