Job Title: Place Planning Assistant
Salary: £30, - £35, (Band C) per annum
Working Hours: 35 hours per week
Contract: Fixed Term – 2 years
Location: Balloch, with hybrid working model in place
Introduction
Our Place Planning Team is leading on the preparation of our new Local Development Plan that sets out our new strategy for development in the National Park. This will take an integrated approach to include land management improvements, action for nature and climate that together will ensure broader benefits People, Nature and Climate.
This opportunity has been created following internal promotion and is part of changes to increase the Team’s capacity as we enter the key stages of preparing the new Plan.
The Role:
To assist in the successful delivery of the Authority’s statutory planning function in relation to Place Planning including preparation of the new National Park Local Development Plan and related strategies and policy guidance, securing relevant intelligence, and monitoring of performance against agreed targets and outcomes.
Responsibilities:
1. Contribute to a positive and efficient Place Planning service through assisting in the preparation of policies and strategies, and implementation of the statutory processes which deliver an up to date Local Development Plan, and supporting planning guidance addressing physical development issues and aspirations of the Park. Assist in other aspects of the Service including: supporting wider Statutory Planning tasks; supporting the delivery of digital services; and participating in the delivery of any related project activity.
2. Provide assistance in ensuring that the Planning Service is operated to a high standard, including ensuring the delivery of defined performance targets and outcomes and an excellent public service which reflects Corporate and Annual Operating Plans.
3. Provide assistance as required to the development of other policies and guidance which inform wider Authority strategies and initiatives.
4. Support a customer focussed planning advice and information service and support all monitoring and information systems, including online e-planning services, which provide intelligence on planning and development in the National Park.
5. Assist in supporting initiatives which promote wider understanding of planning issues and the operation of the Planning Service in the National Park, and provide more effective opportunities for public involvement in the planning process.
6. Support other staff in delivering the necessary partnerships, engagement and consultation processes with other organisations, interests and stakeholders in the planning system, to secure support for the defined priorities and outcomes being delivered by the planning service.
7. Undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade as required.

11. Articulate with excellent interpersonal skills
12. Degree or equivalent in Planning (or potentially working towards)
13. Eligible for Chartered Membership of the RTPI
14. Current UK Driving Licence
15. Flexible approach to working hours as evening and weekend working will be required
Ideally, but not essential, you’ll also have:
16. Up-to-date knowledge of the Scottish Environmental, National Park and Rural Planning.
