The role is in the Internal Design Team (IDT) of Works Delivery based in Heaton Mersey, Stockport. We pride ourselves on close collaboration between design and construction. As a designer, you’ll be involved from the review of remits to assisting the site team with technical queries.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the design of repair, strengthening, and replacement schemes for a great variety of structures on the railway.
IDT has won a number of design awards including Winner of “Infrastructure Project of the Year” at the 2023 National Rail Awards.
We are currently working on prestigious rail structures including Sankey, Stockport and Whalley Viaducts, the Mersey Rail Tunnels, Roade Cutting, and on the scenic Settle to Carlisle and Cumbrian Coastal Lines. We operate over the Northwest and Central Region which extends from London Euston up to Gretna Green on the Scottish border.
Day-to-day, you will be visiting sites, working with and liaising with the Route Asset engineers, Project Managers, and the Construction Team. You will present your design ideas at Design Reviews and Interdisciplinary Design Check meetings.
The projects are varied and will include:
1. Bridge Design, Maintenance, and Strengthening
2. Retaining structures Design, Maintenance, and Strengthening
3. Scour Protection of bridges
4. Tunnel maintenance and strengthening
5. Design of Lineside structures
What are we looking for?
* The ability to independently produce pragmatic designs
* A good attitude and ability to communicate
* Knowledge of CDM and risk assessment
