At Westinghouse - Springfield, you'll enjoy truly excellent training and an interesting role in our production plant, with on-the-job learning and a dedicated induction and mentoring program - preparing you for a rewarding, ever-changing career within the nuclear industry.
You’ll be on site from day one, working towards gaining an Intermediate Apprenticeship in process manufacturing at Level 2. This will include college work and assignments to complete alongside a portfolio showcasing your competency and understanding of the role. It’s important that you are willing to complete coursework on time and meet deadlines while working in the role. You will work within our Oxide Fuels department at Westinghouse - Springfields, learning how each team works together. You will also work with our external stakeholders to gain knowledge on how we produce our product, monitor the process, and collaborate with other teams.
We will support you each step of the way, ensuring you have the right resources to succeed. This will involve working with a variety of colleagues within the department at Westinghouse - Springfields on site at Salwick, Nr Preston.
You will also have the opportunity to apply for any roles with Springfields/Westinghouse that are available towards the end of your apprenticeship program.
What Else Will I Learn?
As well as gaining great practical experience in process manufacturing, regulatory requirements, and the safety aspects of the nuclear industry, you will learn key skills such as communication, problem-solving, and teamwork with the operational areas.
What Will I be Doing?
You will undertake all the tasks and learning required as an apprentice to become competent in the role of production manufacturing by the end of the apprenticeship scheme. You’ll experience different aspects of the process, recording and monitoring while working closely alongside experienced team members within the department. You will also gain a great understanding and practical experience of what’s involved in keeping our internal and external customers satisfied and providing them with a positive experience.
You’ll experience working within a team in the manufacturing process to understand planning and carrying out sampling and analysis of materials, recording using the required administration procedures and training that supports the business in daily tasks and projects. Taking a confident approach to problem-solving and communicating with other departments, you’ll gain insight into how materials are manufactured across the site and what is involved in getting resources and skilled people into the business to enable Westinghouse - Springfields to send supplies and services to our customers.

* 3 GCSEs including maths, English, and Science at grade 4-9, A-C
When Do I Start?
If selected for the next stage, you’ll be invited to an interview day and will take some assessments, including functional Maths and English.
If you are selected to join Springfields, you will start in August 2025.
