About Us:
Prospero teaching are working with a specialist school in Birmingham, dedicated to providing exceptional support and education for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to support our students with Autism, and we welcome candidates with a background in support work.
The Role:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide one-to-one and small group support to students with Autism, helping them engage with the curriculum, develop social skills, and manage emotional challenges. Working closely with the class teacher and other professionals, you will help implement tailored strategies and interventions to support each student's individual needs. Your role will be integral to creating a positive and inclusive classroom environment where students feel supported and empowered to succeed.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting students with Autism to access the curriculum and participate fully in classroom activities.
- Assisting with communication, social skills, and emotional regulation to ensure students' needs are met.
- Helping to implement individual learning plans and strategies, as outlined in students' Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Promoting positive behaviour and supporting students to develop confidence, independence, and resilience.
- Working with teachers and other staff to monitor and track students' progress and well-being.
- Providing support during breaks, lunch, and extra-curricular activities to ensure students are safe and engaged.
About You:
We are looking for candidates who:
- Have a genuine passion for supporting children with Autism and a desire to make a positive difference in their lives.
- Have experience in a support role (e.g., as a care worker, support worker, or in education), with a willingness to develop further in an educational setting.
- Are patient, empathetic, and able to build strong, trusting relationships with students.
- Have a good understanding of Autism and the challenges students with Autism face in learning and socialising.
- Are flexible, adaptable, and able to work well as part of a team.
- Can promote a positive and inclusive environment, encouraging students to reach their full potential.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience:
- Experience working with children or adults with Autism or other Special Educational Needs (SEN).
- A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Support Worker, or equivalent) is advantageous, but not essential.
- Understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder and strategies to support students A dynamic and inclusive school environment with fantastic facilities and resources.
