We are looking for an Executive Director with the skills and experience to manage change, and the drive to find opportunities in the face of significant challenges. Our Executive Director will need to demonstrate leadership in building a sustainable and thriving Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) across a large and predominantly rural county.
This role entails leadership and management of a small and stable team of experienced and knowledgeable staff. Working with our Board of Trustees and Senior Management Team, the Executive Director is well supported in this post, to influence and shape community support systems, provide strong public advocacy for the VCS, and to build the profile and role of DCA as a key agency for supporting and enabling communities in County Durham.
The Executive Director holds responsibility for ensuring that DCA meets all legal and professional obligations with respect to our role as an employer, our financial management, and good governance, and is required to produce regular monitoring returns and reports for our Board of Trustees and our funders.
Our current Executive Director will be retiring later this year, and we are now looking for an exceptional leader, who thrives on challenge and can motivate, instigate, and manage change, working across professional and community boundaries. You will understand social action and infrastructure support for the VCS. You will also understand multi sector partnership working and all it entails, with patience, resilience and a strong hand of constructive critical friendship and pragmatism.
DCA (formerly Durham Rural Community Council) has been working alongside communities across County Durham since 1935. We are active members of professional networks at regional and national levels, contributing to VONNE (Voluntary Organisations Network North East) and ACRE (Action for Communities in Rural England), and we have a strong track record and interest in understanding and helping to shape public policy at national and regional levels.
Our core work is to champion the work of volunteer led organisations and groups, providing a rolling programme of information, advice, guidance and training, supporting volunteers and those who work with volunteers, and providing leadership for VCS partnerships and alliances.
As a registered Charity and Company Limited by Guarantee, we are independent, and can provide an objective and clear voice on behalf of the VCS in County Durham.
