Our current team includes consultants dual specialising in Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine, Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine, and Respiratory Medicine, offering a collaborative environment that promotes professional growth.
In our 16-bedded, mixed Level 2 and Level 3 Critical Care Unit, you’ll be part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, working alongside physiotherapists, dietitians, speech and language therapists, clinical psychologists, and more. You’ll care for approximately 800 admissions annually, delivering life-saving care in a modern, purpose-built facility.
What We’re Looking For:
· An ambitious, team-oriented, and experienced consultant
· Membership with the Royal College of Physicians (or equivalent experience)
· Full GMC registration with a license to practice
· Dual or single specialist registration within 6 months of CCT

Key responsibilities of the role include:
· Team Work Support:Work alongside a multi-tiered junior medical team, including trainees from FY1 to Stage 3 Intensive Care Medicine (ICM), as well as trainees from Anaesthesia, Medicine, and Acute Care Common Stem (ACCS) training programmes.
· Critical Care Outreach & ICU Follow-Up:Collaborate with the 24/7 Critical Care Outreach Team, providing expertise in patient management across the hospital, as well as participating in regular ICU follow-up clinics.
· Ultrasound & Echocardiography Expertise:Engage in the unit’s strong focus on Ultrasound and Echocardiography, with support for Stage 2 ICM Special Study Years in Echocardiography. As part of this, contribute to the ongoing development and clinical application of these technologies in critical care.
· Clinical Governance & Continuous Improvement:Participate in multi-disciplinary team (MDT) Clinical Governance meetings, held monthly.
· Research & Innovation:Our Critical Care Unit is actively involved in National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) portfolio studies and has a strong presence in regional and national research activities.
· National and Regional Representation:Play an active role in the wider medical community through national and regional representation.
