The Digital Services Directorate is responsible for managing and delivering technology, data and digital services to support the academic, administrative, and research functions of the university.
Summary
The post holder will be a member of the Infrastructure and Operations Team contributing to most aspects of support, development, installation, security and management of the central IT systems to ensure that Information Services provides quality services that are responsive to the needs of its customers. The post holder will be a key specialist in HPC and other research-related technologies.
Accountabilities And Responsibilities
1. Play a key role in ensuring that the University infrastructure services are properly set up, managed and maintained.
2. Be a subject matter expert in the installation, configuration and management of the university's High Power Computing systems and associated services and service resilience, including disaster recovery, backups and data replication.
3. Ensure that the department's ITIL and Cyber security policies and best practices are applied, including Change control, Incident management, Server & Service monitoring and patch & release management.
4. Effectively manage own workload, prioritising work to meet set deadlines and use initiative and creativity to resolve problems where the outcome is less predictable.
5. Initiate and develop internal relationships and contacts to facilitate future exchange of information, undertaking active collaboration to pursue a shared interest.
6. Independently make decisions which are low risk and mainly affect themselves or a small number of people, guided by regulation and practice.
7. Ensure that service documentation is created and maintained, and produce reports based on the systems/services as required.
8. Assist in the work of the team in providing a timely response to service-related problems.
9. Provide 3rd line support response to service-related problems in a timely manner.
10. Participate in project groups as required in the development and delivery of new services and meetings and workshops as required.
11. Keep up to date with market trends to inform service development and make service changes.
12. Drive continuous improvement in network and security services, staying ahead of technological trends and emerging threats.
13. Lead strategic projects for infrastructure enhancement, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
14. Promote the adoption of innovative solutions to support the university’s teaching, research, and administrative objectives.
