We are seeking an enthusiastic Principal Engineer to support our regional Development Team in Birmingham, focusing on civil engineering for development infrastructure.
You will work within a team to lead and produce designs and drawings for construction projects and deliver technical reports for masterplanning and in support of planning applications. You can expect to be active on several projects and client accounts at any given time. You will report to a senior member of the Development Team.

* HS2 Old Oak Common Station, London
* Aston Villa, Birmingham
* Bahrain International Sports City, Bahrain.
* Smithfield Redevelopment, Birmingham
* Ellison Institute of Technology, Oxford
Responsibilities
* Day to day project management in the delivery of concept studies and strategies with hands on design, leading to planning applications or construction drawing issue
* Taking financial responsibility for your projects and ensuring they are delivered to budget, programme and technical standards
* Working on varied multi-disciplinary projects and client accounts, liaising with clients at a local and national level
* Direct line management, including mentoring and managing early career professionals ensuring technical excellence
* Assisting in the preparation of fee proposals and involvement in business development activities
* Helping maintain the culture and positive working environment in the team
YOUR TEAM
* The Development Team is a well-established and high performing discipline within the Planning and Development business unit which includes over 800 colleagues focused on project delivery through the whole project life cycle, from initial land acquisition, planning support and design, through to scheme implementation

* We help our clients to promote, implement and manage sustainable development, from pre-feasibility through to planning consent; establish plans and provision for how an area, its accessibility and needs, will develop over time and guide sustainable future development; and develop multi-disciplinary design from concept through to detailed design and construction
* We work with public/private sector land promoters and house builders, developers, signature architects, Government, and local authorities. Some of the multi-disciplinary services we provide that you will help deliver include:
o Civil engineering, highways design and earthworks strategies
o Utilities, energy planning and coordination
o Drainage, flood risk and SuDS
o Site appraisal, due diligence, and strategic planning advice.
Qualifications
* Preferably a Civil Engineering degree and either be Chartered or approaching Chartered status with experience in highway and highway drainage design
* Strong post graduate experience in a civil engineering working environment
* The ability to produce masterplans, site appraisals, write reports to support planning applications, design calculations and construction drawings
* A solid engineering foundation and an understanding of highway design and highway drainage principles (layout, etc.)
* Experience in using Civils 3D or PDS (or similar software packages) together with experience in applying Highways England/DMRB and Local Authority design guidance
* Experience in design of drainage using InfoDrainage and a background in Water Company related work inclusive of the relevant design codes such as Water UK Sewerage Sector Guidance, DMRB and Local Authority Design Guides, and to be well versed in the preparation of drawings for Contract Documents and requisite technical agreements
* The ability to work effectively with colleagues including more senior and junior staff in producing designs, drawings and reports is essential.
