We currently have a Permitting Data Technician position available within Environmental Performance. This full-time role offers a competitive salary of up to £30,000 - £34,462 per annum plus excellent benefits.
About the role:
The Permitting Data Technician will maintain and develop South West Water’s database of environmental permits related to water discharge activities, waste operations, and trade permits. Responsibilities include handling and updating associated data and documents, developing collaborative tools for tracking permit applications, variations, and surrenders, and liaising with the Environment Agency and operational teams.
What you’ll be doing:
1. Manage and develop the environmental permitting database, ensuring accuracy, functionality, and compliance.
2. Update permits database with new permits, variations, or surrenders, and notify relevant teams.
3. Query the database using SQL or similar tools to produce reports.
4. Update asset management systems like “Ellipse” with permit data.
5. Collaborate with IT to improve the permits database.
6. Manage collaborative systems used by the Environmental Permitting Team.
7. Track permit costs, update invoices, and liaise with Finance for discrepancies.
8. Provide technical training and support to team members and other departments.
9. Assist in preparing regulatory data for the Environment Agency and OFWAT.
10. Contribute to company responses on regulatory consultations.
11. Support the development of the Environment Team’s intranet and SharePoint sites.
12. Provide cover and support for the Environmental Permitting Manager.
13. Assist with permit applications and review draft documents for accuracy.
What we are looking for:
* Experience with relational databases such as Microsoft Access and SQL Server, including running queries.
* A scientific, mathematical, or related degree, or equivalent experience.
* Proficiency with collaborative tools like OneNote, SharePoint, and Teams.
* Advanced data management skills using Excel.
* An understanding of maintaining interconnected data across systems.
