Main duties of the job
* To assist in the preparation of an annual balanced budget in line with the Trust's policies and procedures
* To calculate accruals and prepayments within strict deadlines for all periodic payments, ensuring accurate records are maintained
* To complete, calculate and process income and expenditure journals in accordance with the reporting timetable
* To complete, calculate and process budget journals into the finance system in line with the agreed procedure notes
* To analyse income and expenditure, identifying, investigating and reporting the reasons for budget variances to the Financial Analyst
* To update and prepare budget statements from the General Ledger system on a monthly basis
* To support the distribution of the monthly budget statements and associated reports accurately and on time
* To respond to and resolve both routine and complex queries from budget holders and external agencies, attending meetings under supervision
* To ensure that all transactions within the Trust's ledger are correctly coded
* To assist in the preparation of specific divisional reports
* To input into the proactive change and review of financial processes and policies, constantly striving to ensure they are as efficient as can be
* To support the training process when required, in terms of finance and non-finance staff

Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
* Excellent communication (verbal/written) and interpersonal skills
* Knowledge of accounting and financial reporting concepts and principles
* Understanding of computerised financial systems, coding structures and the inter-relationships between financial modules
Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training
Essential criteria
* NVQ Level 4 / Associate AAT or equivalent demonstrable experience
* 5 GCSEs (including Maths and English) or equivalent
* Experience of working in a management accounts environment
Desirable criteria
* Good working knowledge of NHS bodies and activities
* Experience of providing advice and guidance to other finance professionals and non-financial managers

* Analytical and problem solving skills, with an ability to interpret complex financial reports
