Job Description:
At NZCL, we are dedicated to supporting disabled people in New Zealand. Our Disability Support Services reflect our belief that all people deserve to live fully, have equal opportunities, and achieve their ambitions.
We are looking for energetic and motivated people to join our team of Whanau (family) support workers in the Nelson area to support tamariki (school-aged children) and taitamariki (youth and teenagers) with their needs, helping them enjoy activities and build confidence in their homes and communities. This could include going to cafes, the movies, supporting them to look for work, or to join a sports team.
Although prior experience working with children/youth would be advantageous, this is not essential as full training is provided for these roles.
What does a Whanau Support Worker do?
In this role, you would support young people in their home and community to lead fulfilling and meaningful lives. You would assist them in achieving their personal dreams and goals by supporting them to do the things they want to do, such as swimming, attending sporting events, arts and crafts, movies, or shopping - the list is endless!
What's in it for you?
* This is an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people in your community.
* Earn competitive pay rates between $23.38 and $29.10 per hour.
* Earn while you learn with free training towards NZQA Health & Wellbeing qualifications.
* Employee Assistance Programme service anytime you need health and wellbeing support.
We are looking for people with the following attributes:
* Energetic and passionate about supporting people to achieve their goals, hopes, and dreams.
* Ability to look beyond presenting barriers and provide experiences that empower people to live their best life.
* A desire to support people in learning new skills and achieving outcomes.
* Availability to work after school hours (3pm to 6pm) and some weekend work.
* Experience working with young people would be advantageous.
* Ability to connect and build positive relationships through consistent support.
* Full driver's license and ability to complete police checks, CYRAS checks, and reference checks.
Empathy, respect, and cultural awareness are important in this role as the people we support come from diverse backgrounds with varying needs and interests.
Please bear in mind all applicants must be a NZ Resident/Citizen or have a valid open NZ work permit.
