DESIGN OFFICE MANAGER

This is a very exciting time for the business as we prepare to relocate to new premises at Spinnaker Park, Gloucester in 2025.
The Design Office Manager will be responsible for managing workflow and providing technical support to the Design Office Team and internal colleagues and clients. They will also be responsible for advancing the technical and engineering capabilities of Roots Systems, focusing on product and process improvements.
For this role candidates will need to hold a suitable mechanical engineering apprenticeship/mechanical engineering degree or have proven demonstrable experience. You will have knowledge and understanding of a variety of manufacturing processes and the ability to evaluate costs.
This role would ideally suit somebody who has experience leading an engineering and/or design team and has the ability to quickly establish effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
Candidates will have demonstrable experience of 2D/3D CAD and the ability to check fabrication and isometric drawing.
Main Responsibilities:
* Provide engineering and design leadership within Roots.
* Attend cross departmental progress reviews and maintain strong communications with other teams.
* Support the Projects Team and Production Team with the delivery of engineering drawings, ensuring conformance to customer requirements.
* Review incoming order details via kick-off meetings and attend meetings on proposal or technical clarifications as required.
* Provide full design support to Design Office Team.
* Managing completion of design office tasks against agreed delivery dates.
* Review and approve engineering drawings for release to production.
* Ensure design office deliverables meet project design specifications.
* Read and construct assembly parts lists/ bills of materials for blowers and packages.
* Build and manage usage of a SolidWorks parts library.
* Manage drawing documentation filing system.
* Develop design processes to streamline front end and detailed design.
* Drive new product development and standardisation efforts where possible.
* Support quality, health and safety efforts with risk assessments and method statements involving design activities.
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated with a desire to set high standards of work performance for themselves and their team. You will need excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage workload with competing priorities and frequent interruptions.
