Job summary Volunteer Trustee Role (Clinical expertise) Weldmar are looking for a medical, nursing or allied health professional background to join our board of Trustees. The successful applicant will be passionate about using their skills to positively impact the local community and support individuals and families facing life-limiting illnesses. Main duties of the job As a Trustee with a clinical background, you will strengthen our board with your expertise, actively participating in Trustee meetings and specialist committee sessions, which occur six times a year. Your specific skills and knowledge will help our Trustees make informed decisions, aiding the Chief Executive in achieving Weldmars strategic goals and objectives. As an Ambassador for Weldmar Hospicecare, you will embody our values of Caring, Integrity, Welcoming, and Adaptable when engaging with staff, volunteers, supporters, and service users. Candidates should live locally to Dorset and have experience or an interest in committee membership (corporate or voluntary) and an understanding of palliative care is desirable. Our team of dedicated staff and volunteers ensure that we can continue to support patients through one of lifes most difficult journeys. We work closely with other health care providers including the NHS to ensure that our patients receive the highest possible care. We do receive some funding from the NHS but the majority of our income is generated by our fundraising and retail teams, which plays a vital part in securing income to fund our care, both now and in the future. Role of Trustee Weldmars Board of Trustees are collectively responsible for supporting the Chief Executive in providing vision, direction and leadership enabling Weldmar to achieve its strategic goals and objectives. The board are accountable for the governance of Weldmar and must ensure that it operates in a manner that: - Complies with its Memorandum and Articles of Association and all applicable legislation and regulations; - Uses it assets and resources exclusively for charitable purposes in pursuance of its objectives; - Ensures strong financial stability; - Pays due attention to charity and company law; - Upholds, monitors, protects and enhances the reputation and ethos of Weldmar. Trustees must work together at all times and act in the best interest of Weldmar. Trustees must not pursue personal or sectional interests at the expense of Weldmar and must declare any conflict of interest. Responsibilities of Trustees: 1) Understand Weldmars aims and objectives as set out in the Memorandum and Articles of Association and ensure that it operates in accordance with them. 2) Take responsible steps to ensure that Weldmar operates within the law, particularly with regard to the Charities and Company Act. 3) Set the strategy and understanding the strategic management of Weldmar 4) Understanding the difference between the role the Trustees pay in governance, developing and agreeing the strategic direction of Weldmar, and that of the senior management team in applying that strategy to day to day operations. 5) To ensure proper accounting records are kept. 6) To ensure the effective and efficient administration of Weldmar. 7) Protect and manage the property of the charity. 8) Take special care when investing the funds of Weldmar. 9) Always acting with integrity and avoiding personal conflicts of interest and misuse of charity funds or assets.
