Art Technician and Driver required for corporate art consultancy The Art Movement.
We are looking for a passionate art handler to join our team!
A bit about us…
The Art Movement is an art consultancy based in Ashurst, close to Southampton. We provide art to corporate clients all over the UK and we’re on a mission to enhance employee wellbeing and support artists in developing sustainable careers.
We’re a friendly team who are passionate about art, supporting artists and creating incredible experiences for our clients. Little Van Gogh is a network which exhibits artists' work in offices and changes the art throughout Europe at regular intervals. We run the UK part of this network. We also manage artist mentoring schemes, manage corporate art collections and offer online art classes amongst other things.
The role…
At the present time we are seeking to recruit an art technician and driver for one day per week.
This role will involve visiting office spaces to install and changeover exhibitions of original paintings. Carefully transporting the work of our artists all over the country, you’ll be responsible for hanging it impeccably and engaging with people from all walks of life to explain the artwork to them and promote our artists.
You’ll also be collecting and delivering art to artists’ homes and studios and will be expected to discuss their work with them as well as offering them guidance and dealing with their queries.
We are looking for a motivated, hardworking individual who works well on their own but equally as part of a team. You will need to have a strong sense of responsibility, flexibility and self-management as you will be working independently much of the time.
A valid UK driving license is required and you will need to feel confident driving a short wheel based van in busy cities such as London.
There will be an initial period of training and parallel working (paid), but quite quickly you will make these trips and change exhibitions independently.
More about the role:
* You will be driving across the country in a short-wheel base van, including several trips per month into central London and as far as Manchester, Cambridge, Oxford to name but a few cities you’ll be working in.
* You will occasionally be asked to make overnight trips to places such as Guernsey and Jersey.
* You’ll need a full UK driving license.
* This role is not a 9-5. Length of day will be variable, sometimes long days with early starts or late finishes.
* You’ll need access to your own transport as the public transport that runs to our office is sometimes not reliable early / late in the day.
* You will be advising on the positioning of art and installing our hanging systems in office spaces.
* You will be the face of our company and your attention to detail not only in presenting the work but in the way you engage with people will be crucial.
* You will be responsible for the safe transportation of valuable original works of art (mainly paintings but also sculpture).
* You’ll need to be able to answer questions about art and engage in confident debate as well as relaying feedback about the art to the team and our artists.
* We’ll expect you to seize all opportunities to promote artists and their work.
* You’ll be collecting and delivering art to artists in their homes and studios.
* You will be responsible for the detailed condition-checking of artworks.
* You will prepare art for exhibition by attaching fixings and cables to the work.
The position is offered as a permanent part-time role. We have a requirement for one day per week with additional shifts available during busy periods.
