Day to day, you’ll be providing fundamental Ancillary Services analysis, assumptions, forecasts, and a variety of analytical activities with a core focus on current and emerging Ancillary Services markets. Working closely with the wider Trading & Optimisation team within liquid traded markets, you will play an active role in supporting daily trading strategy decisions from within-day out to up to 5 years ahead, with the delivery of Flex Value annual targets in excess of c.£200m/year Specifically, you’ll provide robust fundamental analysis, engage in trading strategies, develop and maintain models, review past analysis, own pricing tools and trading-decision models such as price forecasting and simulation models. You will also provide market and competitor intelligence to identify areas to add value. The desk is small in relative terms, but this means you will have more ownership and visibility with management, and have greater interaction across the business. About You You’ll need to have a degree level education in a subject along the lines of science, maths, economics, engineering or other numerate subject, as well as working knowledge of UK power markets. Experience and understanding of power generation units will set you up to settle in quickly, as will a curious mindset. You’ll have solid experience with statistical and fundamental modelling using IT techniques such as; SQL, Python, Excel, Business Intelligence tools (Power BI); and be able to apply a pragmatic approach to large data structures. If you have a good understanding of the methods underlying linear and mixed integer programming with experience of building models and solving them with commercial optimisers (Xpress/CPLEX), you’ll be set up for quick success in the role.
