Further information:
A PA with good communication skills and who is able to use their own initiative is required for an active young man aged 17, living in the HU5 area of the city. The young man enjoys being outside- going to the park or for countryside walks. He also enjoys swimming, for which he would need assistance to get changed. You should be willing to go into the pool with him.
You will be very aware that he has no sense of danger and ensure his safety at all times. When in the city, he uses a wheelchair to keep him safe, and you would need to push him in his wheelchair. However, when in the countryside and away from the danger of traffic, he is happy to walk.
The young man is non-verbal and communicates via objects of reference or leading someone by the hand. You must be willing to be interactive with him and promote his inclusion in all activities.
Some support is required with personal care. Previous experience would be ideal but not essential.
A car driver with their own car is preferred.
He has epilepsy and uses a vagus nerve stimulator for which training will be given.
Owing to the nature of this position, any offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory checking report from the Disclosure and Barring Service, the cost of which will be met by the local authority/employer.
