Primcipal Mechanical Design Engineer, based in Derby (with hybrid working)
We are seeking a talented Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our client’s engineering team. As a leading design and build contractor, our client is dedicated to delivering superior quality engineering design services that minimise risks and maximise profits for turnkey and engineering services contracts.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop cost-effective design layouts that meet specifications and can be efficiently constructed and commissioned. Consider all associated costs, including design, materials, construction, and impacts on other disciplines.
* Utilise standard practices wherever possible to maintain competitiveness.
* Provide estimates and feedback to the Proposals department.
* Adhere to and improve procedures and processes for department development.
* Coordinate designs with internal and external disciplines to ensure cohesive contract execution.
* Maintain thorough documentation and records throughout the contract’s duration.
* Ensure customer satisfaction by fostering a culture centred on meeting client needs, whether end-users or internal departments.
* Uphold health and safety standards, environmental considerations, and efficient waste reduction in all design activities.
* Supervise and develop staff while maintaining a personal development plan.
About You:
The ideal candidate will possess:
* A strong understanding of water and sewage treatment principles.
* Experience managing staff in designing relevant aspects of water and sewage treatment plants.
* Membership in a professional institution and/or chartered status.
* A relevant engineering degree.
* The ability to rationalise designs and produce economic plant layouts.
* Broad knowledge of water treatment disciplines, including mechanical, process, electrical engineering, and project management.
* A flexible mindset capable of assimilating large amounts of data.
* Excellent presentation skills for technical proposals.
* Computer literacy and a valid driving licence.
