Job Title : SEND Teaching Assistant (Children's Residential Background Welcome) Location : Wakefield, West Yorkshire Contract Type : Long-term role with potential to go permanent Leader Education is seeking passionate and resilient SEND Teaching Assistants to join a specialist SEMH provision supporting children aged 11-16 in Wakefield. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals from a children's residential care background to bring their skills to an educational setting. Responsibilities : Support students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in both group and 1:1 settings. Assist teachers in planning and delivering tailored lessons that meet students' individual needs and Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs). Help maintain a positive and structured learning environment by implementing effective behavior management strategies. Build strong, trusting relationships with students to support their academic and emotional development. Collaborate with colleagues to create holistic strategies for student success. Monitor and record progress, providing regular feedback to senior staff, parents, and carers. The Successful Candidate Will Have : Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an SEMH, SEND, or residential care setting. A compassionate, patient, and proactive approach to supporting students with complex needs. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships. Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policies. A valid enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
