The worldwide push for net zero aviation creates significant opportunities for Honeywell to maintain our position at the forefront of global aerospace technology development by taking technologies that are needed for the thermal management of new low carbon emission aircraft from concepts through to mature technologies that will drive the revolution towards net zero aviation.
We are looking for an experienced thermal systems engineer to join an established multi-disciplinary R&D team based in the Southwest of England to work on technology developments, from initial concepts up to prototypes demonstrated in flight.
As the technical project lead for the thermal management of key sub-systems of sustainable aircraft powered by Hydrogen Fuel Cell, Hydrogen Gas Turbines or Hybrid Systems, you are expected to define system architecture, perform trade-off analyses, conduct system modelling and simulations, and assess performance for integrated thermal management sub-systems, heat exchangers, and electric propulsion.
Position Responsibilities
1. Component design and development for thermal management components.
2. System architecture definition and development for thermal management sub-systems.
3. Provide expertise in heat exchangers, electric propulsion motor cooling and their integration, numerical and thermal analysis.
4. Close collaboration with subject matter experts on architecture definition, systems, and component engineering, providing system-level guidance, defining trade-off studies, and participation in system modelling and analyses.
5. Definition and planning of system development, leading design reviews.
6. Close collaboration with the project manager and his/her support.
7. Performing functional hazard assessment, system safety assessment, and common cause analyses.
8. Supervising preparation of Validation and Verification plans.
9. Participation in the preparation of system test procedures and acceptance test procedures.
10. Preparing tasks for colleagues and integrating their results into your system development.
Qualifications
1. BSc. or equivalent degree in a relevant engineering domain.
2. Multiple years of multidisciplinary or thermal system engineering experience.
3. Good command of the English language.
4. Although this is primarily a civilian aerospace role, our technology has military applications, and the successful candidate will need to meet our security standards.
Advantageous Experience
1. Demonstrated experience in Heat Exchanger design and/or manufacture.
2. Demonstrated experience with vapor cycle cooling or air cycle cooling systems.
3. Aerospace experience.
Honeywell is an equal opportunity employer. Qualified applicants will be considered without regard to age, race, creed, color, national origin, ancestry, marital status, affectional or sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, nationality, sex, religion, or veteran status.
