Haematology/TYAC Registered Nurse Development Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a demonstrably experienced nurse to support the Haematology and TYAC (Teenage and Young Adults Cancer - 16-24yr old patient group) Nurse Specialist teams in this developmental post. This charity funded development post encompasses all stages of the patient pathway and is intended to offer the skills and experience required to support future applications to become a Cancer Nurse Specialist.
Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.
Main duties of the job
With support from the Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist's, the successful applicant will be responsible for the assessment, treatment planning and co-ordination of patient care; ensuring correct pathways are followed. They will make an important contribution to the care and management of both Haematology and TYAC patients within the acute setting by providing support and specialist nursing advice to patients, their relatives and other health care professionals. The post holder will work closely with all members of the Haematology and TYAC multi-disciplinary teams and therefore should be able to work well as part of a team. There will be a need to have a good understanding of aspects of surgery, radiotherapy and systemic treatments. Communication with primary and secondary care organizations is essential to improve the patient journey and experience. Candidates should have excellent verbal & written communication skills and a good level of IT skills. They should be able to work independently and organise their time efficiently.

Job responsibilities
Key Dimensions:
The post holder will gain experience working in Cancer services for 18 months. They will work across haematology CNS and TYAC services within the working week. Experience will be gained by working across in-patient and out-patient areas. It is expected by the end of the 18-month period that the nurse will be a competent practitioner and innovator for cancer nursing. By the end of the 18 months, the individual will be competent and confident in the assessment, management, treatment and psychological support of cancer patients and families. The skills and experience acquired will incorporate chemotherapy knowledge, symptom management, radiotherapy treatments, advanced communication, end of life experience and skills in audit. The post holder must be willing to undertake the academic Specialist Oncology Degree Module Head 359 and/or other local education/study days as deemed appropriate.
