1-2 months contract with a Local Authority Job Summary: The Information Governance Officer will be the first point of contact for public enquiries related to Freedom of Information (FOI) requests and Data Subject Requests (DSRs) under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample): The post holder will be responsible for coordinating and processing FOI requests, ensuring they are handled professionally and in full compliance with legal requirements. Additionally, the role will provide support, advice, and guidance to staff within Achieving for Children (AfC) regarding FOI requests and data subject requests, including advising on information redaction and preparing reports for the public. The Information Governance Officer will work closely with the Information Governance Lead and Data Protection Officer (DPO) to support the development of policies and procedures that ensure AfC's compliance with UK data protection law and best practices in information management. The post holder will advise internal stakeholders on all aspects of information governance and records management and coordinate responses to information requests from customers. The post holder will assist the DPO in investigating and responding to data breach incidents, including acting as a deputy when required. They will also develop and maintain key information governance tools and standards, such as retention schedules, the Information Asset Register, and records management frameworks. The Information Governance Officer will lead and support work streams to sustain compliance with the GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA). Responsibilities will also include responding to FOI and DSR requests, ensuring appropriate redaction of information, and preparing reports for the public. They will collaborate with Heads of Service within AfC to collect and compile necessary information for FOI and Subject Access Requests (SARs). Skills/Experience: Knowledge of Legal and Regulatory Requirements: Understanding of FOI, DSRs, GDPR, and the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA). FOI & DSR Management: Experience in processing and coordinating FOI requests and Subject Access Requests (SARs). Advisory & Support Skills: Ability to advise staff on FOI, DSR, and information governance matters, including information redaction. Records Management: Experience with retention schedules, Information Asset Registers, and records management frameworks. Data Breach Management: Ability to investigate and respond to data breach incidents, support the DPO, and act as a deputy when necessary. Information Governance Policy Development: Experience in developing and maintaining policies and procedures for compliance with data protection laws. Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration: Strong ability to liaise with internal stakeholders and gather/compile information for requests. Attention to Detail & Accuracy: Ensuring correct information redaction and preparing accurate reports for the public. Project Management & Work stream Leadership: Experience leading work streams focused on GDPR compliance and data protection initiatives. Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with information governance tools, digital records systems, and Microsoft Office.
