Let us introduce the role AWE is currently recruiting for a Group Leader for Defence Radiation Protection Services (DRPS), the trusted Partner of high-quality radiation science For UK Defence and Security. Based in Gosport on the South Coast, the DRPS provides radiation protection advice and services to MOD, wider government and commercial customers, in the UK and overseas. This is a rare opportunity for a dynamic leader to join our influential team, delivering impactful services across defence. You'll lead multi-disciplinary technical teams in delivering a range of services including our Nucleonic Instrumentation Service, Approved Dosimetry Service, radiation protection advice and training and the provision of MOD's Radiological and Nuclear Emergency Response Organisation (RNERO). You will empower our people to excel and ensure our vision statement of being the trusted partner of high-quality radiation science for defence is met. Key Responsibilities: Implement the sub-function strategy while managing resources in a safe, secure and cost-efficient manner. Deployment of the Group people capability to successfully deliver the strategic goals of the sub-function now and in the future. To encourage and drive agility through the Group, ensuring that the sub-function is able to respond and adapt to changes and better ways of working across the Programme. To develop national and international recognition for AWE to leverage opportunities in collaboration with stakeholders, further enhance scientific and technical reputation and provide confidence to customers. To identify functional and operational risks and ensure that they are mitigated /escalated as required. Exercise financial awareness to ensure the costs are optimised to provide value and seek opportunities to make savings. Maintaining a very high level of knowledge and awareness in field of technical specialism; understanding the industry challenges and changes which could impact AWE. To act as a member of the functional leadership team and work in collaboration with other leaders to drive AWE forward. We do need you to have the following: Degree in scientific, STEM or leadership and management discipline, equivalent NQF level 6 qualification or equivalent experience Previously held a people management role in a complex or large organisation or have operated in a role that included accountability for the optimisation of the people resource within an organisation. Proficient in the use of MS Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) Excellent strategic and tactical planning skills Excellent decision making and problem-solving abilities Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and organisational skills Whilst not to be considered a tick list, we'd like you to have experience in some of the following: Driving delivery, performance and continuous improvement The effective use of HR policies and procedures, performance management, and disciplinary procedures Financial awareness and management of budgets.
