We are seeking to employ a proactive and enthusiastic Associate Mechanical Consultant to join our expanding team in Cambridge. As an experienced professional who ideally holds professional accreditation or is actively pursuing it, you will bring an extensive portfolio demonstrating your expertise and capabilities. You will assume greater responsibilities in delivering projects within your group.
You’ll possess the competencies necessary to support the running of projects and deliverables, including resourcing, financial management, specialist support, senior-level client engagement, technical assessment, and quality assurance. In this role, you are actively working towards your future area of specialisation: Technical, Management or Design.
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Working alongside the Associate Director, managing extensive individual projects whilst supporting project coordination.
* Strongly support the day-to-day running of projects, ensuring they are delivered to the highest technical standards.
* Act as a key client interface at the project level when the Project Director cannot attend. Understand the client’s requirements and align them with the project goals. Encourage clients to call them when they need advice. Tackles client problems to encourage long-term partnerships.
* Assist in marketing activities, including developing a deep network of contacts within the industry and with clients.
* Attends evening functions and receptions regularly to reinforce our sales and marketing activities.
* Assist in the development of fee proposals and presentations.
* Support your team with quality control on projects and ensure that the company quality assurance and compliance standards are upheld and adhered to in accordance with the Business Management Procedures.
* Complete project references/Presentations to be used for marketing purposes.
* Take the initiative to propose ideas to improve marketing.
* Work with the Project Director to evaluate challenges from a project, identify and develop solutions for new projects to mitigate risks and develop opportunities in the future.
* Be present, making yourself visible and available amongst the project team.
* Conduct performance assessments, provide constructive feedback, and identify skill gaps and opportunities for learning & development as a line manager.
* Encourage a growth culture and provide support for early career staff Learning and development.
* Closely monitors the design work carried out by other team members.
* Provide technical training to staff.
* If applicable, liaise with the BIM team continually to ensure they know drawing requirements.
* Assist the Project Manager in ensuring all additional work undertaken is appropriately identified and additional fees are claimed where appropriate.

Background & Qualifications:
* MSc or BSc in Environmental or Engineering discipline. Should be a Chartered Engineer or possess the desire to become Chartered by CIBSE or IMechE.
* Have mechanical design engineering experience at a Senior level, working on commercial (new build, refurbishments and fit out) developments.
* Experienced in laboratories, light industrial, and/or hotel developments.
* Membership of relevant professional bodies.
* Understanding of sustainable building design, renewable and low carbon technology.
* In-depth understanding of the requirements of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
* Both a team player working within a multidisciplined group assisting the more senior engineers along with helping and encouraging the more junior members, as well as having the initiative to work alone.
* Strong knowledge of Building Services Engineering Systems including their performance, application and operation, gained in a design office.
* Be a proactive, adaptable, and approachable engineer with excellent client facing and communication skills at all levels and takes the initiative. Experience of D&B projects would be an advantage.
* Analytical skills to influence the drive for continuous improvement.

* Be able to review all calculations/specifications and drawings to ensure they are appropriate and comply with the client brief.
* Be able to assist the Project Director in managing the finances of the projects.

* Be able to Provide technical guidance, fostering a culture of innovation, creativity, and a design-led approach.
* Proficient with solid communication skills for senior Clients and Stakeholder interaction.
* Identify and fully evaluate project or design variations, proposing scope, program, and fee revisions to the client.
* Promote a collaborative, inclusive work environment that encourages teamwork, knowledge transfer, creativity, innovation, and problem-solving.
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail to meet project milestones.
* Demonstrate leadership skills, effective communication, and the ability to make informed decisions for successful outcomes.
