Description
Our Blood Sciences team operates a 24/7 service across our three laboratories and we have a fantastic opportunity for a Trainee Biomedical Scientist to join our team. This position is based in Blood Sciences (Biochemistry, Haematology and Blood Transfusion) at our essential services lab in Yeovil District hospital, with additional training opportunities at Musgrove Park Hospital.
Our laboratory has a proven track record of supporting individuals to complete their IBMS Registration portfolio and providing full training to become a BMS. You will have the opportunity to work in a laboratory which takes a leading technological approach with state-of-the-art Beckman Coulter analytical systems in Biochemistry, Sysmex analysers in Haematology and Ortho Vision analysers in Transfusion. The department supports testing for the local NHS trust and primary care providers.
SYNLAB UK & Ireland have extensive experience of working in partnership with the NHS to deliver and improve pathology services through its existing pathology joint ventures – including Southwest Pathology Services (SPS).

Responsibilities
As a Trainee BMS within the Blood Sciences, you will be trained to perform and interpret routine and specialist testing providing patient centred scientific excellence whilst maintaining high quality standards in accordance with ISO15189.
Once you have achieved HCPC registration you will automatically be appointed as a Band 5 Biomedical Scientist. As a registered Biomedical Scientist, you will have the responsibility of maintaining fitness to practice and participate actively in CPD. SPS will commit to support you in developing your skills and knowledge in line with your professional growth and our business interests.

Qualifications and skills

Qualifications
* IBMS accredited degree in Biomedical Science.
* HCPC registration (to be obtained within 12 months of employment)
Desirable experience
* Proven experience of working within a team.
* Ability to organise and plan own work and work under pressure.
* Well developed communication and interpersonal skills, able to explain complex information and results to service users.
We will also consider applications from HCPC registered BMS’ who are looking for the opportunity to progress to a Band 6 position which is possible upon completion of an IBMS Specialist Portfolio. This can be done while working in our team and upon successful completion we offer automatic progression to our equivalent NHS agenda for change band 6 position.
