Job overview
Our highest priority is to provide an outstanding, timely service to our patients. We are looking for an individual with strong motivation and high-level administrative skills to help deliver our busy, dynamic service.
The ED Patient Flow Pathway Coordinator will lead on tracking patient pathways through the department to ensure flow is maintained and enhance patient experience. By working closely with clinical and managerial staff, and providing high standard administrative support, the post holder will ensure patients receive treatment as soon as possible and ensure national targets are met.
The post holder will also ensure the nursing rotas are completed and updated using our electronic system with support from the Senior Nursing Team.
Main duties of the job
* The ED flow coordinator role manages flow through the Emergency Department to ensure that patients are seen in a timely manner.
* The post holder is responsible for providing a high standard of professional and patient-focused service.
* Action day-to-day issues, ensuring resolution and escalating serious issues to management as appropriate.
* Escalate any issues and breaches of the 4-hour target to the relevant management.
* Work within a multi-disciplinary team in developing the service in line with departmental plans.
* Co-ordinate and provide administrative support to ensure all relevant paperwork and clinical information is available.
* Complete the Nursing workforce rota.
* Identify gaps in the rota and arrange cover to maintain patient safety.
* Ensure appropriate procedures are followed and that non-adherence is reported.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date rotas.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Monitor and review patient care using the ED patient system.
* Identify next steps in the patient care pathway.
* Monitor patients on their pathway and proactively find resolutions to improve treatment speed.
* Ensure timely and efficient transfer of patients and information between trusts.
* Update on all enquiries regarding patients’ care.
* Develop an understanding of the milestones of the allocated pathway for patients.
* Ensure health records are appropriately tracked and securely stored.
* Attend relevant meetings and complete actions regarding patient care.
The post holder will have regular contact with a wide range of clinical and managerial staff, administrative staff, patients, and external agencies.
Undertake any training as required to complete the tasks associated with the job role.
Actively participate in department development and departmental meetings.
Person specification
Education and Training
* Good general education with English and Maths to GCSE standard or equivalent.
* Educated to diploma level or NVQ 3 in business administration or equivalent.
* Evidence of further training in short courses and significant experience in hospital administration.
Experience of
* Significant proven experience in a fast-paced customer care environment.
* Ability to deal with a range of issues independently and efficiently.
* Experience in an administrative role within the NHS.
* Experience working in an emergency department or fast-paced environment.
* Experience of Rota management.
Knowledge of
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work both autonomously and in a team.
* Ability to deal with difficult service users.
* Demonstrable experience of data collection and handling data quality issues.
