Job overview
The post holder will be a registered Occupational Therapist responsible for clients allocated to them and will work autonomously to assess, manage, plan and deliver care, including being professionally and legally accountable.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will work collaboratively with family/carers and all agencies involved in the child’s care, encompassing all private and public sectors.
The post holder will support the specialist OT/PT community therapy team and be an effective team member whilst working autonomously.
The post holder will provide Occupational Therapy to children and young people 0-19 years old in a range of settings and environments including the child’s home, nursery, mainstream and special schools.

Starting with NELFT
NELFT places a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks, which will include mandatory training, systems training, and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process, new starters will have the opportunity to meet the executive team, senior managers, and attend drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing, and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt unless they are currently partway through a probation or are a bank staff member.
High Cost Area Supplement - London
This post attracts a payment of 15% of the basic salary as a High Cost Area Supplement (minimum £4,551 and maximum £5,735 per annum pro-rata).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
· Provide high standards of assessment and contribute to the diagnostic process based on clinical findings.
· Develop and implement individualized intervention programs in conjunction with children and their families/carers.
· Organize and prioritize own workload.
· Delegate appropriately to therapy assistants.
· Follow Trust protocols and maintain accurate records as per guidelines.
· Ensure effective risk management and report incidents as necessary.
Clinical Skills
· Act as an autonomous, registered practitioner, accountable for own actions, guided by professional and Trust standards.
· Responsible for service delivery to clients/patients.
· Initiate referrals to other health professionals and agencies.
· Support practice with research, evidence-based practice, and peer review.
· Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop child-centered intervention programs.
· Educate children, carers, and agencies on functional needs and support skill acquisition.
· Motivate children and carers, addressing barriers such as language, cultural diversity, and pain.
· Review and modify therapy programs as needed.
· Coordinate cases with other professionals and families.
· Assess and recommend equipment and environmental adaptations.
· Manage own caseload effectively.
· Maintain clinical competence through CPD activities.
· Recognize personal limitations and seek support when needed.
Communication
· Maintain excellent communication with clients, families, and professionals.
· Attend multidisciplinary meetings and case conferences.
· Handle sensitive information and initial complaints tactfully.
Training
· Mentor students and support their development.
· Commit to ongoing professional development and mandatory training.

Professional registration
* HCPC registered as an OT

Knowledge of child development
