Base salary: £40,750 pa to c.£50,950 pa depending on skills and experience. In addition, we offer a flexible benefits fund of 20% which is paid on top of base salary and is fully pensionable, as well as a range of competitive benefits - check them out in the Benefits section on our website.

As a Strategic Finance Analyst, you will support all aspects of longer-term Strategic Finance Planning and Management including but not limited to Inflation, Foreign Exchange, Long-term forecasting including strategic planning for indirect costs and spending reviews.
About the role:
Insights & Decision Support
* Supporting strategic and tactical financial analyses and evaluation in order to assist decision making, controlling budgets, adopting alternative financial strategies, and developing processes for controlling spend.
* Support Our Future Fit Finance programme and embed a continuous improvement culture and ethos by identifying and implementing process improvements where appropriate.
* Support strategic finance and funding issues including Inflation and Foreign Exchange risks working across HS2 and DfT stakeholders.
* Support the strategic review of Indirect costs focused on meeting Cost Efficiencies as agreed with HS2 Executive and in accordance with DfT led Efficiency Review.
* Manage Business Critical models including HS2 Funding Model and Indirects cost model supporting Comprehensive Spending Reviews and Project Baselines.
* Undertake strategic and tactical financial analyses and evaluation in order to assist Directors in decision making, controlling budgets, and adopting alternative financial strategies.
Strategic Partnering
* Support the Head of Strategic Finance in other duties as necessary that may be required.
* Act as the key contact between Group Finance and the business to escalate or raise issues.
* Identify and address any obstacles or challenges that may impact team performance and implement appropriate solutions.

About You:
Skills:
* Communication skills: Ability to interpret and communicate complex financial issues to non-financial colleagues and to secure compliance with Managing Public Money.
* Ability to interpret complex financial data and use it to support decisions and recommendations within the business.
* Ability to analyse and interpret complex financial information throughout the programme lifecycle.
* Ability to use ERP systems, utilising data analytics software and complex Excel models.
* Ability to deliver value-adding MI and ensure effective financial controls within a major project.
* Stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage, communicate and develop consensus with both internal and external stakeholders.
* Ability to critically review business plans, assessing plans for their affordability, value for money, timing, and impact on programme delivery.
Knowledge:
* Knowledge of accounting systems and the ability to develop and manage off-system analyses and records (e.g. spreadsheets).
* Knowledge of how to develop output-driven, activity-based budgets, clearly aligned to programme delivery requirements.
* Ability to develop and set clear timetables, guidance, templates, and communications for use by the business that capture all relevant supporting information behind plans and forecasts.
Type of experience:
* Studying towards a relevant accounting qualification.
* Experience operating in a complex environment which may include infrastructure projects.
* Experience of driving output-focused, activity-based budgets and forecasts.
* Leading the process for development of the annual business plan and budget-setting processes within funding caps set by the Spending Review.
* Experience engaging and collaborating with key stakeholders and partner functions (such as planning, procurement, contract management, and HR teams).
