North Yorkshire Council has a reputation for delivering high quality services and our new Professional Governance Service shares this ambition.
The role of clerk offers a unique opportunity for exceptional individuals to join our new professional governance service on a permanent but flexible basis. The position is term-time only.
Main Duties:
1. Liaising with the Headteacher and Chair of Governors prior to each governing body meeting
2. Compiling and distributing papers using an online portal within agreed timescales
3. Keeping accurate membership records
4. Attending governing board meetings in person, and/or virtually by agreement, at allocated schools and producing accurate minutes, including agreed actions, within agreed timescales
5. Providing advice and support to the governing board to ensure compliance with statutory legislation and requirements
6. Attending keeping in touch and line-management meetings with a named Senior Governance Officer
We are looking for clerks who will work closely with Governing Boards and further build on our reputation of excellence in supporting the delivery of our service across North Yorkshire.
Typically, clerks work with an allocation of schools within an agreed geographical area of North Yorkshire. We currently have in the East Whitby and Scarborough areas.
Clerks are required to attend meetings in person at school, (occasionally meetings are held virtually by prior agreement), so your own transport is essential. Clerks are allocated 10 hours for a primary school per meeting and 11 hours for a secondary school meeting; this includes preparation, attendance at the meeting (usually 2 hours), writing up the minutes, and any related communication. Mileage costs are reimbursed.
About the person:
You may already be an experienced clerk or a new entrant into the profession with transferable skills relevant to the role.
You will have an attention to detail and the ability to build positive professional relationships. You will be motivated, organised and have excellent communication and customer care skills.
You will need to work flexibly, be able to attend meetings in the afternoons or early evening, and have a suitable space to complete all other work from home.
You will be someone who wants to contribute to their local community and is passionate about making a difference to the lives of children and young people.
We look forward to receiving your application.
