1x Full time post is available on our paediatric ward.
F6422 bedded medical ward (2-16 years).
Highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals are sought, who will be able to participate and assist with the care of babies, infants and older children from the age range of 0 to 16 years on our busy in-patient paediatric wards. The post is available on the medical/emergency surgical ward. You will be expected to provide support to children and their families during their stay in hospital.
Responsibilities
* To assess, plan, implement and evaluate care needs without direct supervision. Will be required to demonstrate procedures to and supervise qualified and/or unqualified staff.
* Act as a named nurse for a defined group of patients taking lead responsibility for the coordination and delivery of their care from admission to discharge.
* To take charge of the ward for a span of duty in the absence of the person with continuing responsibility.
* As nurse in charge of a patient caseload/area, is directly responsible for ensuring that cleanliness standards are maintained in that area throughout the shift.

Main Duties of the Job
The paediatric wards here at Sunderland Royal Hospital have a well-developed and organised team that offers a 24-hour service, 365 days of the year. You will be required to work on a rota to meet the service needs and to ensure the highest standards of care are delivered. Posts are expected to be offered on a rotational basis.
You will be supported in your development, including training and educational opportunities beneficial to your role. We welcome applications from students who are due to qualify this year.

Person Specification
Skills and Knowledge
* Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information.
* Able to work without supervision.
* Competent in the use of IT such as Microsoft Office.
* Evidence of CPD.
* Knowledge of national health and social care policy.
* Knowledge of evidence-based guidelines e.g. NICE guidelines, NPSA alerts, current nursing legislation.
* Venepuncture and cannulation competency.
Qualifications
* Current NMC Registration in Children's nursing or evidence of qualification if newly qualified.
* Degree in Children's Nursing.
* Clinical Teaching experience.
* Teaching qualification.
Physical Skills
* Ability to assist patients to move as per Trust Moving and Handling Policy.
Experience
* Experience of working in an acute hospital or community healthcare setting.
* Recent experience of working as a registered Children's nurse.
