Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with an interest in Fetal Medicine.
We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague with a flexible approach to provide an efficient service for patients/women who attend the Obstetrics and Gynaecology departments in Sunderland Royal Hospital and South Tyneside District Hospital.

The successful applicant will be encouraged to take a lead or support colleagues in the Obstetric Lead roles including Obstetric Quality and Safety, Labour ward lead, fetal monitoring including development of relevant guidelines etc. They should also play an active role in education and training. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop other special interests based on service requirements.
Applicants must be a holder of MRCOG and be eligible for the GMC Specialist Register in Obstetrics and Gynaecology within six months of the time of interview. Applicants must hold RCOG ATSM or Equivalent in Fetal Medicine.

Main duties of the job
Applicants must also have excellent organisational and communication skills, be a good team worker, and have experience in training undergraduates and postgraduates. Direct involvement in delivery of NIHR portfolio clinical research trials is highly desirable.
The successful applicant will need to work closely within a team of consultants who have similar interests and will share Fetal Medicine scan sessions and high-risk antenatal clinics across both South Tyneside and Sunderland hospitals. The Fetal Medicine pregnancy team of consultants will support each other to deliver the high-risk specialty clinics, high-risk screening, growth, multiple pregnancy, and congenital abnormalities. The post holder must be willing to contribute to medium risk antenatal clinics, labour ward management, and Caesarean Section Lists to support Ockenden recommendations. The successful candidate will be expected to support fetal medicine MDT meetings and engage fully with specific fetal medicine governance including MBBRACE, MNSI, PMRT reviews, and neonatal and perinatal morbidity and mortality meetings. The successful candidate will be on call for both Obstetrics and Gynaecology so Gynaecology sessions (DCU theatre and possibly GOPD) would be included in the job plan to maintain gynaecology on-call skills.

Job responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to work as a team member to deliver the service contract and to contribute towards strategic planning and development within the Directorate.
The Directorate has a proud record of delivering the contract within budget and aims to maintain this position. The post-holder will be professionally responsible for their particular patient workload but will also be responsible for colleagues' patients while carrying out on-call work.
The Directorate expects the post-holder to adhere to principles of practice as set by the GMC and comply with Trust Policies and Procedures.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration
* Relevant CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
* ATSM advanced Labour ward or equivalent experience
* ATSM Fetal Medicine or equivalent experience
* Completed GCP training and been involved in NIHR portfolio clinical research
* Further Higher Degree, MD or PhD
* Qualification in medical education
Experience
* Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT, including ability to provide delivery suite cover and intrapartum care
* Ability to offer expert opinion on a wide range of emergency/routine cases in obstetrics and gynaecology
* Interest in Clinical Governance and Risk Management
* Experience of supervising junior medical staff
* Experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
* Evidence of commitment to teaching
* Experience in delivering training and education in general Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Skills and Knowledge
* Understanding of the NHS, Clinical Governance process and resource issues
* Evidence of organisational, administrative, management and time management skills
* Previous record of organisational achievement
* Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical practice
