Role: Surveying Technician
Salary: £29,093 - £31,586 a year (Grade F)
Location: Council House, Derby
Hours: 37 hours a week, 09:00am - 17:00pm Monday to Friday

We’re looking for a driven Surveying Technician to join our fantastic team based in Derby City Centre. The Property and Consultancy Services department plays a key role in our organisation, by providing compliance, maintenance, and capital project services on the Council’s vast and diverse property portfolio. This role works closely with the Estates and Legal departments to maintain and update the Council’s Geographic Information System (GIS) based Land Terrier system to ensure the Council has an excellent understanding of the properties and land that it owns.
As a Surveying Technician, you’d be joining a supportive team that will value you, help to develop your skills and enable you to become an expert in Property Asset Management within a busy Property department.

The Opportunity
In the role of Surveying Technician, here are some examples of what you’ll be doing to make an impact:
* Liaison with other departments to maintain and update the Council’s GIS based Land Terrier, including extrapolation of relevant information from Deeds, Legal Documents, and databases.
* Updating property information and plans held within the Council’s Property Asset Management database to ensure accurate records are held.
* Produce complex asset/site plans that comply with industry standards and guidelines.
* Using GIS to prepare land ownership plans on an Ordnance Survey base and basic Computer Aided Design (CAD) drawings.
* Advise members of staff on matters of basic land law where it affects the Council’s interest such as: Boundaries, Rights of Way, Rights of access.
* Advise members of the public on matters regarding ownership/boundary disputes.
About You
To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have...
* Experience in the use of a Geographical Information System (GIS) based on Land Terrier.
* Legal knowledge of land/property/boundary matters on ownership and disputes.
* Ability to create, interpret, and explain asset/site plans for diverse audiences, including internal teams and external stakeholders.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* High attention to detail, with a focus on maintaining data accuracy and integrity.
* Good level of IT usage (such as Microsoft 365).
* Excellent time management skills, being able to prioritise and meet multiple deadlines.
* High degree of professionalism, inclusivity, and confidentiality.
