Lymphoedema is a condition which causes chronic swelling of limbs and/or the body. Itis often caused by cancer or cancer treatments but there are also other causes such as trauma, infection, obesity or congenital abnormalities. The post-holder will support the Lymphoedema Nurse Specialist in planning, delivering and evaluating the service provided to Lymphoedema patients, on a day to day basis. The post-holder will deputise for the Lymphoedema Nurse Specialist in his/her absence. The post holder will take a major role in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients within the speciality who may have complex and/or chronic presentation. The post holder will be expected to determine clinical diagnosis and implement a management plan as an autonomous practitioner. The post holder will be able to withstand the sustained physical effort that the assessment and treatment of Lymphoedema demand. The post-holder will be expected to deal sensitively with patients/carers who have high levels of anxiety and who may have difficulty communicating effectively.
