Job Title: Business Development Representative
Salary: £34,500 - £44,850 per annum
Location: Cambridge/Hybrid (expectation of 2-3 days per week in the office)
Contract: Permanent/Full time (35 hours per week)
We are looking for a driven and proactive individual to manage Journal Special Sales activities, including journal sponsorships, sponsored supplements, and advertising. In this role, you will engage regularly with corporate, government, and nonprofit partners while collaborating with society partners, editorial, content management, legal and finance teams. Your responsibilities will include managing contracts, negotiating new agreements, reviewing pricing, and driving direct sales efforts to support business growth and the dissemination of Cambridge's content.
About the role
The Business Development Team sits within the Academic Sales Team and is responsible for Journal Special Sales, Content Licensing and Distribution, Book Special Sales, Corporate Library Sales, and Rights and Permissions Sales.
As a Business Development Representative, you will manage journal sponsorships (including sponsored supplements, special issues and collections), and advertising programs, while supporting the team in meeting financial targets across all Business Development revenue streams.
In this role, you will:
* Identify and pursue new business opportunities for Journal Special Sales.
* Manage the full lifecycle of journal sponsorships and sponsored supplement programs, including pricing, contract negotiations, and coordination of publication processes with external partners and internal teams.
* Engage with society partners and journal editors to explore special sales opportunities within the journal publishing pipeline.
* Drive advertising sales and assist in managing relationships with advertising agents.
* Regularly meet with our partners and potential sponsors and attend relevant conferences or industry events.
About you
You are a collaborative and strategic professional with background in account management, customer services, sales, contract management, or business development. Your exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills enable you to navigate discussions with a diverse range of partners and internal teams. You thrive in a team-oriented environment, fostering strong relationships and open communication to drive shared success. With a people-first mindset, you are proactive in supporting colleagues, problem-solving collaboratively, and ensuring that both internal and external stakeholders feel valued and heard.
A background in publishing, particularly in journals, as well as project coordination or contract administration, is a strong advantage. You excel at managing multiple projects and deadlines while working collaboratively with global teams, maintaining a proactive, solution-oriented approach to identifying and driving business opportunities. As a quick learner, you can adapt to new systems, processes, and industry developments, ensuring you stay ahead in a dynamic business environment.
