It supports operations around the globe and provides the ships, people, aircraft and equipment to deliver the UKs defence policy. NCHQ supports all the Royal Navys activities from front-line operations to personnel selection and training. Civil Servants work in many different disciplines here alongside uniformed personnel fulfilling a range of interesting roles. NSD Audit Manager will work for Chief Environment and Safety Officer (Navy) (CESO(N)). They will provide subject matter advice and an independent audit function to Navy Command and other MOD staff to support the assurance and compliance with the health, safety and environmental protection (HS&EP) and maintenance of NC's safety and environmental management system. Working principally from the Navy Safety Directorate within NCHQ Portsmouth and there is some hybrid working possible. Travel across the UK should be expected, with a possibility of overseas travel. This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. Job description The NSD Audit Manager principal tasks are: To manage and lead the CESO(N) Audit Team to provide, independent to chain of command, advice and assurance of Safety, Health and Environmental Protection Management to the Senior Duty Holder and the relevant Heads of Directorates via CESO(N). To be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for advice & guidance on policy for HS&EP matters as they affect Navy Command, in order to ensure compliance with UK, and where required host nation, legislative and MOD policy requirements. To undertake 2 Accountable Person Directorate and specific functional audits as directed by CESO (N) to provide an assurance read out. To represent CESO(RN) at Committees, Meetings and Groups as required. To manage a team of 11 which compromise of Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Fleet Auxiliary and Civil Servants. Person specification This post is suited to a candidate with a working knowledge of MOD and health, safety and environmental protection auditing or having been an HS&EP advisor of a large industrial site for at least three years. Training and support will be provided to a successful candidate who lacks some of this knowledge, but it is improbable that a candidate with none of the above would be effective in post and therefore is unlikely to be selected at interview. Essential Criteria Line management experience is essential. Essential Memberships/Qualifications Membership of a health, safety or environmental protection institution such as IOSH, IIRSM or IEMA etc. NEBOSH Diploma in HS or level 6 NVQ in Health and Safety discipline.
