In this newly created role, we are seeking enthusiastic team players to work with our blue-chip clients. We advise and handle disputes for major insurers, Lloyds syndicates, large corporates, utilities, and local authorities. This role will have a particular focus on cyber claims, providing insureds with regulatory assistance following data breaches, and liability and recovery claims which flow from these incidents.
Our legal team is lead from our Bristol offices, with colleagues in Cardiff and London also. Many of our colleagues now benefit from working flexibly between the office and home, which helps support a healthy work/life balance. Main duties and responsibilities include
11. Manage a litigated file load of varying claim types and value; proactively ensuring that your client’s needs are fully considered and advised on at all times.
12. Assisting the Partners with complex litigated caseloads.
13. Developing client relationships both within and outside of Sedgwick in the best interests of SLS and the wider adjusting business.
14. Being a role model and example of excellence in both litigation and personal development to the wider teams. Ensuring excellent client service to all Sedgwick’s stakeholders.
15. Supervising paralegals and other junior staff so as to ensure their personal development, legal education, and career advancement
16. Marketing the firm to Sedgwick’s broader client base; seeking opportunities to provide enhanced profitable growth. Engage in business development to enhance your own and maintain the firm’s profile
17. Provide and update knowledge management and training to Sedgwick and its broader client base. Training and developing Sedgwick’s stakeholders and clients in areas of SLS’s expertise.
18. Meeting and exceeding financial and other metrics.
19. Ensuring that the case management system meets SLA and CPR requirements.
20. Developing your knowledge of litigation tactics and a sound working knowledge of the CPR.
21. Developing your knowledge of all aspects of property-related insurance claims, including policy coverage disputes, public and product liability claims, fraud claims and complaints, and subrogated recovery claims and liability matters.
22. Creating and developing systems and procedures to manage and allow the function of SLS within Sedgwick’s digital systems.
23. Handling confidential information in line with the firm's data security protocols.
24. Ensuring compliance with Sedgwick’s various systems and procedures, Darwin, WorkDay, mySedgwick, etc
25. Meeting and exceeding internal targets for time recording and billing.
26. Assisting the wider Sedgwick group
27. Working in accordance with Sedgwick values
What are we looking for?
28. In order to undertake this role you will need to be recognised as a qualified solicitor, barrister or CILEx, or equivalent
29. Demonstrable experience as a solicitor, legal executive or equivalent
30. Experience of litigation is essential
31. Experience of insurance litigation or property damage claims is desirable
32. Understanding of commercial insurance policies, the insurance market, reporting arrangements, reserving philosophies, and the relationship between brokers, underwriters/insurers and lawyers would be valuable
33. Previous secondment to or employment with an insurance organisation would be advantageous
34. Able to demonstrate flexibility in approach and working hours, with the requirement to work in our Bristol office three days a week.
35. Ability to work to deadlines / targets, to prioritise and manage a caseload and to work under pressure to deliver effective solutions
36. Ability to work well as part of a team and on your own initiative
