This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Neonatal Nurse looking to progress their career. As a band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse you will be responsible for supporting the Senior Sister and developing our level 1 Neonatal Unit and Transitional Care services at the James Paget Hospital. We are looking for an experienced, forward-thinking practitioner who has excellent IT skills and good understanding of the BadgerNet system in order to monitor and maintain compliance with the National Neonatal Audit Programme (NNAP) and other data collection needs. You will be highly motivated, well organised, and flexible individual who can influence practice and deliver a high-quality service, helping us to achieve Bliss and UNICEF Baby Friendly accreditations.
Main duties of the job
* Exercising leadership within the unit in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse, to attend meetings, as delegated in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
* Regularly take charge of the Neonatal Unit and Transitional Care and have input into the management of staff within the division.
* To be responsible for managing the care of an individual or a group of patients.
* Create a culture of continuous quality improvement through audit, learning from complaints and patient/family feedback.
* To promote a friendly and supportive environment for parents and relatives in which they can learn to care for their babies in preparation for discharge.
* To be an advocate for the babies and to promote effective communication with all members of the multi-disciplinary team including parents.
* Demonstrating the ability to initiate nursing developments and implement the same across the Neonatal Unit and Transitional Care.
* Regularly participate in ward meetings.
* Promote and participate in staff teaching and development.
Job responsibilities
You will be responsible for demonstrating excellent clinical outcomes, safe and effective delivery of care for the neonate and their family, carrying out all required care without direct supervision. You will need to be committed to improving their experience during their time in hospital, linking in with the Paediatric services, implementing Trust policies and procedures, be able to act promptly on concerns and to communicate effectively and share information appropriately within a multi-agency context where collaborative working is key.
You will also play a large role in developing and supporting the workforce of the Neonatal Team, linking with the Clinical Educators, Risk and Governance Lead and Feeding and Fi Care Lead and participating in staff recruitment process.

Qualification
* NMC Registered Nurse or Midwife with Neonatal QIS
Experience
* Minimum 1 year post QIS experience
Skills
* Good interpersonal skills which engender effective working relationships with staff
