About the Department: The Systems Engineering department is responsible for all the electrical/electronic and control systems on the race car, including all sensors and their logged telemetry data. The engineers within Data Processing team are responsible for the development of software applications that reliably provide additional high-quality data that is vital for the analysis of vehicle performance. Role Overview: In this factory-based role you will contribute to the development of bespoke software applications that are used to analyse car telemetry data in real time during race events. Your Responsibilities: As a Systems Design Engineer at Williams, you will be responsible for : Supporting our race team from the Remote Ops Room in Grove. Running and monitoring our data processing software using live telemetry. Reacting quickly to sensor or data issues when the car is on track. Searching for opportunities for improvement or automation. Developing your software engineering skills with support from the team. Collaborating with other departments to capture data requirements (e.g. to aid performance analysis/design). Preferred Candidate Profile: This role requires a person with an aptitude for programming who is keen to learn quickly and work hard to contribute towards the success of the team. Attention to detail and forethought in your programming will be key for building robust applications that can be relied upon by the team. The ideal candidate will possess a combination of the following: Essential: Strong foundation in programming or software engineering. Proficiency in MATLAB. Basic knowledge of GIT source control. Interest in data analysis, such as signal processing. Ability to debug software in high-pressure situations. Desirable: Understanding of object-oriented programming. Familiarity with GUI design, including callbacks. Proficiency in Python or C#. Knowledge of electronic sensors or control systems. Experience working with databases, such as SQL.
