Apply to Become a Governor
Play a key role in shaping East Durham College’s future by becoming a Governor.
The role is voluntary and unpaid, but there are many rewards that come with it – the opportunity to gain Board level experience, to share your expertise and perspective in a meaningful and rewarding environment, to expand your network and to develop new skills that will benefit your own career.
Your role will help to deliver the College’s mission of providing a highly ambitious curriculum to the community we serve. You will be influencing the overall strategic direction and educational character of the College, as well as helping to ensure its overall wellbeing and financial solvency. You will also act as an ambassador for the College, utilising your networks and links to help shape the College’s offer so it remains highly responsive to local skills needs.
We welcome all applications and are looking to fill up to three vacancies.
We will consider applications from individuals with any professional background but are particularly interested in those with financial expertise, curriculum expertise, experience of income diversification and business growth, digital or land-based experience.
Governors are encouraged to play a full and active role and will be expected to attend Board meetings as well as joining a committee of the Board. A full induction and regular training will be provided to ensure you understand the context in which the College operates and the skills necessary to fulfil your role.
The College has three sites; two in Peterlee offering academic and specialist technical further and higher education, and a 476-acre site on the outskirts of Durham City Centre, offering specialist land-based provision to the region. We've invested several million pounds into making Houghall a place fit for the 21st century, with even more future investment coming soon to further improve our facilities.
The Houghall campus has several state-of-the-art facilities, including a small animal care centre housing a wide range of animals, specialist dog grooming studio, a working farm and a stunning equine centre with indoor and outdoor arenas.
