Main function of role:
As a Junior Product Design Engineer for Collier Webb you will be creating production and client drawings for bespoke and standard lighting, furniture and hardware projects, working to tight deadlines. It will be your responsibility to help manage a number of concurrently running manufacturing projects. This will involve being a point of contact for the production team, sub-contractors and occasionally clients.
Involvement in the development of new and existing products. Working with our Product Designers on fast paced projects, developing creative engineering solutions and assisting the team in the creation of prototypes, spec sheets, and product documentation required for product launch and efficient future production.
Key Responsibilities:
Design Engineering
* Creation of production and client drawings using SolidWorks CAD software.
* Creation of installation instructions.
* To aid the design/engineering process the Design Engineer has use of the 3D printer.
* Project research and developments should be recorded to allow R&D reports to be created; it may be necessary for Design Engineers to attend R&D meetings to discuss projects.
* Check through production drawings made by the design team and make any simple corrections as required to issue to production.
* Request and attend daily engineering/hand over meetings when required.
* Have an awareness of and work within project budgets.
* Involvement or attendance at project review meetings. Record of this meeting should be saved in the job file on the company server. Drawings should be reviewed and amended to ‘as drawn’ if necessary.
* Updating the Collier Webb custom in-house job flow system and bespoke jobs spreadsheet to which all departments work to maintain job files on the company server as required.
Subcon
* Obtain multiple quotations from subcontractors to ensure project budget is met.
* Ensure that any required specialist subcontracted items for the project are ordered in time for project manufacturing.
* Inform the production scheduler of subcontracted item arrival date via the job flow and bespoke jobs spreadsheet.
Compliance
* Ensure that items are designed to comply with regulations and provide the Wiring department with necessary information.
* Ensure that bespoke projects are delivered with any necessary installation instructions and maintenance information. These instructions must adhere to electrical and health and safety regulations.
People
* Good communication with colleagues within the design department and with other departments throughout the company is critical to ensuring the smooth running of projects and client satisfaction.
