Workshop Technician

Reed Engineering are working with a department of the University of Oxford and I am seeking a skilled Workshop Technician to join the team. This role is crucial in providing design, build, modification, and repair services for academic staff within the department's workshop facilities. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Workshop Manager, engaging with various materials and techniques to support teaching and research activities.
Day-to-day of the role:
Manage machining processes, maintain quality control, and ensure the smooth operation of the workshop.
Process jobs, monitor outcomes, spot discrepancies, propose refinements, and rerun processes where necessary.
Test and fault-find equipment within the department, except those under maintenance contracts.
Construct equipment from verbal instructions, rough sketches, and plans using materials such as metals, woods, ceramics, and plastics.
Design and construct specialist department fittings.
Maintain equipment, perform quality checks, and contribute to the cleanliness and upkeep of the workshop space.
Assist with inductions, training of colleagues or students, and supervise non-workshop staff, emphasizing safety rules.
Operate and program CNC milling machines and CNC lathes.
