Summary of the role:
To act as an anaesthetic and recovery practitioner and ensure safe, effective, and evidence-based care is consistently delivered.
To work closely with the multidisciplinary team to achieve / maintain an outstanding, patient-focused service.
Main duties of the job
General
1. To ensure all patients are treated with dignity, respect, and equality.
2. To ensure peri-operative theatre practice is consistent with national and local standards.
3. To ensure all patient records and associated documentation is accurate, contemporaneous, complete, and processed as per OSD Healthcare requirements.
4. To assist in the maintenance of a safe and healthy environment.
5. To assist with departmental audits.
6. To provide regular feedback regarding all aspects of the operative service to the Anaesthetics and Recovery Lead Practitioner, highlighting any issue that may impact on the continued delivery of a high-quality service.
Clinical
1. To participate in the theatre team briefing to discuss and agree the requirements for the surgical list.
2. To ensure robust patient safety checks (WHO) are consistently completed as per OSDH policy.
3. To participate in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based, individualised patient care.
4. To deliver planned care for a group of patients without direct supervision.
5. To ensure patients are effectively monitored and that appropriate action is taken to manage any arising complications.
6. To work in partnership with the anaesthetists and be able to discuss/challenge any existing practices which could impact on patient safety and/or standards of care.
7. To work collaboratively with the theatre team and clinical departments to ensure good communication and a coordinated approach to patient pathways.
8. To hold responsibility for the correct administration and custody of medicines according to OSDH policy.
9. To respond calmly to emergency situations, maintaining patient safety and seeking immediate support, and supporting the patient, family, and other staff as required.
10. To communicate effectively with patients/relatives/carers and all members of the multidisciplinary team.
11. To ensure equipment is in good working order and immediately remove/report if found to be defective.
12. To assemble, check and prepare the appropriate anaesthetic equipment, emergency drugs, and consumables for a wide range of operative procedures incorporating various types of anaesthesia.
13. To conduct mandatory patient safety checks in conjunction with the team and according to policy, including ‘pause’ prior to administration of regional anaesthesia.
14. To assist the anaesthetist throughout the peri-operative phase of care.
15. To assist the anaesthetist in monitoring the patient’s condition throughout the procedure, taking appropriate action to manage any arising complications through contingency planning.
16. To work as part of the operating team to provide safe quality care to the patient throughout the procedure.
Recovery
1. To assemble, prepare and check the appropriate recovery equipment, consumables, and drugs to ensure appropriate and safe care of the patient during the immediate post-operative phase of care.
2. To coordinate the use of supplies and additional equipment during the immediate post-operative phase of care ensuring the equipment is used appropriately and safely.
3. To assist the anaesthetist during the immediate post-operative phase of care as and when required.
4. To monitor the patient’s condition throughout the recovery phase of care, taking appropriate action to manage any arising complications through contingency planning.
5. To proactively monitor the patient’s level of discomfort/pain and take appropriate action to ensure the patient is comfortable.

You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a salary in the range of £30,500.00 - £37,855.00 pa depending on experience plus benefits.
About the role

About you
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:
* Registered Practitioner with NMC or HCPC with no restrictions
* Current and consolidated experience as a theatre practitioner / worked within anaesthesia and recovery, ideally within the private healthcare sector
* Good knowledge of clinical governance standards and external bodies, such as the CQC, AfPP
The successful candidate will be expected to work on a shift basis, working 37.5 hours per week over a 7 day rota during the hospital operating hours. The rota is not fixed, is subject to change in order to meet operational needs and will be required to work weekends and bank holidays in accordance with the rota.
