General Information: Adjunct faculty teaching is limited to a maximum of 8 credit hours in the summer semester, 12 credit hours in the fall semester, and 12 credit hours in the spring semester. These limits are for total number of credit hours taught in the Virginia’s Community Colleges (VCCS). Additional restrictions may apply depending upon other positions occupied within VCCS.
Responsibilities: The Nursing Division at Brightpoint Community College augments full-time teaching faculty with qualified part-time instructors for adjunct teaching positions available in nursing for the Fall 2019 semester to teach courses in face-to-face format that prepare students for nursing aide certification. Part time teaching responsibilities include: teaching the equivalent of 7-12 credits hours per semester, engaging students in the learning process, clinical supervision of students, course and curriculum revision, and accurate maintenance of student files. Adjunct faculty members represent Brightpoint Community College at community events and professional opportunities when possible and maintain positive relationships with community partners. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check is required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required Qualifications: Registered nurse who holds a current, unrestricted license in Virginia or a multistate licensure privilege; and two years of experience as a registered nurse within the previous five years and at least one year of experience in the provision of long-term care facility services. Experience in the care of the geriatric population, excellent oral and written communications skills; ability to teach a combination of day, evening, weekend, classes; and flexible to work at any of the College’s locations. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check. Additional Considerations: Ability to use instructional technology, experience teaching at the post- secondary college level, experience with the Virginia BON regulation regarding Nurse Aide education programs.
