Description We are proud that Outwood Academy Portland is rated Outstanding by Ofsted. We are an 11-18 academy based in the large friendly town of Worksop, near Sheffield and Nottingham. Since joining the Outwood Family in 2012, our students have achieved impressive exam result success. We have created an educational environment where staff and students constantly strive to improve; where teachers sharpen their skills and expand their repertoires to deliver an outstanding learning experience; and where teachers, classroom assistants, mentors, tutors, inclusion support assistants and students operate as a seamless team. This enables everybody, staff and students, to not only see but also help fulfil the potential in each other. Following its latest visit, Ofsted noted that our ‘teachers and support staff comment positively about the opportunities they have for regular training to develop their skills.’ We believe our success speaks for itself as we are above the national average for the number of students achieving at a Grade 5 or above in English & maths GCSEs. We are also proud to have been awarded Bronze Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award. We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice. All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status. We are excited to appoint a dedicated and passionate teacher to deliver Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 English lessons to students who are accessing Alternative Provision. You will be trained to use technology to support you with 1:1 and small group sessions, either face to face or online. You will have full access to the comprehensive English curriculum and resources to support your delivery. Some students require bespoke packages to support their learning, this means they need to access their learning through either 1:1 sessions or in small groups. Lessons will be delivered from school, in smaller rooms or outer buildings. You will work alongside our dedicated Alternative Provision team and Alternative Provision teacher of maths. Students will follow a bespoke package of some on-site learning and some learning from external alternative provisions. We are passionate about ensuring that our students access the highest quality of teaching, despite their behavioural or academic needs. Our learning packages meet the needs of the individual students in ways which suit them, enabling them to succeed and learn in ways that they never knew possible. The perfect candidate will have experience in delivering a secondary English curriculum to students of all abilities, they will be able to manage students who can sometimes pose with challenging behaviours or anxieties around attending mainstream education and ensure students feel empowered and successful, removing any barriers they may have to learning.
