Job title: Initial Airworthiness Engineer – Delivery

Salary: £46,426+ depending on skills and experience
What you’ll be doing:
1. Independent airworthiness assurance activity of design certification (qualification and safety) evidence in support of airworthiness certification for Development, Production and Export clearance programmes.
2. Airworthiness focal point for agreeing flight limitations with System Design Responsibility teams, Flight Operations and the external customers.
3. Establishing and producing Flight Certification (Military Permit to Fly) for Development and Production Aircraft.
4. Establishing and producing Flight Certification (Release to Service) for Export Customers.
5. Independent airworthiness assurance activity for emergent flight safety issues affecting Development aircraft, resulting in the issue of Flight Safety Procedures (Additional Flight Limitations, Flight Safety Messages) to BAES Partner Companies and their operators.
6. Supporting continuous development of BAE Systems and flight certification and design certification processes.
7. Supporting and representing Airworthiness at Typhoon, Tornado, Hawk, FCAS project meetings, including support to external customer meetings.
8. Establishing and delivering the engineering activities using systems integration, systems engineering techniques.
9. Sustaining the initial integrity of Air products through production challenge and review of design, certification and assurance evidence (including product data requirements) in line with market legislation and regulatory obligations.
10. Validation and challenge of the initial evidence through professional judgement and constructive feedback, performance of audit and assurance activities, including involvement in design and phase review assessments (as appropriate).
11. Recovery of the integrity of Air products through investigation, root cause analysis, technical instruction (using technical writing skills) and advising of potential design change.
12. Exploitation of learning across Air and other BAE Systems Units, Customers and Suppliers using appropriate alerting, lessons learnt and promotional processes.
Your skills and experiences:
1. HND/HNC/Degree or equivalent in a STEM subject or equivalent relevant experience.
2. Aircraft Avionic and Mechanical systems design and Aerodynamic disciplines understanding.
3. Design configuration control processes experience.
4. Design certification (qualification and safety) and Airworthiness processes.
5. Analytical methods to support establishing integrated aircraft level flight limitations.

The Initial Airworthiness Delivery Team:
The team covers current and future aircraft development activities assuring the type airworthiness of the product and its release into service across all Customers.
