The SZC Project is the next major nuclear build following the success of Hinkley Point C, located in Suffolk. With construction underway, SZC will power 6 million homes with dependable, low-carbon electricity for the next 60 years, helping Britain achieve Net Zero by 2050. Key Responsibilities As the Environment and Sustainability Lead, you will be responsible for driving the delivery of environmental and sustainability solutions across Sizewell C's contractor partners. This is a pivotal role where you'll ensure compliance with environmental regulations and commitments, making sure that the project upholds its dedication to sustainability.
Key Responsibilities: * Develop and Implement Procedures: Ensure the project meets environmental commitments by embedding sustainable practices into every stage of construction. * Risk Management: Identify and manage significant environmental aspects of the project, mitigating risks to both personnel and the environment. * Contract Integration: Work closely with contractors to integrate environmental requirements into service contracts and evaluate bids for compliance. * Compliance Monitoring: Lead a team of Environmental Advisors, conducting regular site inspections and reviews to ensure all service providers adhere to environmental management procedures. * Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with key stakeholders, including the Local Planning Authority, Environment Agency, and contractors, ensuring the project maintains positive relationships and meets regulatory expectations. * Guidance and Support: Provide environmental expertise to SZC staff, contractors, and consultants, advising on best practices and compliance with regulations. * Regulatory Liaison: Support the Environmental and Sustainability Manager in meetings with regulators and local authorities, representing the project's environmental interests.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience Knowledge & Skills: Essential: o Strong knowledge of environmental regulations related to large-scale construction projects. o Proven experience in managing environmental and sustainability practices on major infrastructure or construction projects. o Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to engage with a range of stakeholders including regulators and contractors. o Strong organisational skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a large, multidisciplinary team. Desirable: o Experience in the nuclear sector or other heavily regulated industries. o Familiarity with construction standards and environmental legislation relevant to the UK. o Experience engaging with local planning authorities, regulators, and public bodies to drive successful environmental outcomes.
Qualifications & Experience Essential: o Degree in a related discipline (Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering) or equivalent practical experience. o Proven track record of delivering sustainable and environmental solutions on large construction or infrastructure projects. Desirable: o Experience in the nuclear energy sector. o Chartered Status or working towards a professional qualification in environmental management or sustainability.
